I was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. At home I spoke French until attending English school in grade 1.
Education:
I graduated from Marymount High School in Notre Dame de Grace in 1971 followed by two years of CGEP at Notre Dame Secretarial School and Marionopolis specializing in legal secretarial training. In 1974 I attended Loyola College then transferred to UBC to graduate with a BA in Medieval Studies and History. After working for two years I returned to UBC for one year to obtain a Professional Teaching Certificate. Many years later after teaching for over 12 years I got a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction also from UBC.
Experience:
My teaching career started in Fort Nelson, B.C. where I taught the primary grades for many years. This career also involved teaching French and acting as French Coordinator. In 1989 my husband and I moved to Squamish where I taught at Mamquam Elementary school for 9 years again as a primary teacher but also in French Immersion Grade 7 and FSL teacher.
Throughout my career in education I served as Professional Development Chair in SD #48, Publications Coordinator for the BC Primary Teachers’ Association, and various Ministry of Education committees focussed on the implementation of the Primary Program and new Social Studies curriculum. Most recently I was a Faculty Advisor for UBC supervising a practice teacher.
In 1999 I became the Principal of a primary school in Fort Nelson. Returning to SD#48 in 2005 I became the Principal of Signal Hill Elementary and Blackwater Creek Elementary schools. During this period I was involved in the creation of the Communities That Care and the C6 initiatives.
Community Involvement:
Presently, I am a member of the Rotary Club of Pemberton serving as Secretary. It is not uncommon to see me at Signal Hill Elementary School volunteering to chaperone a ski trip, help at a fund raiser or supporting an event like the Terry Fox Run.
Family:
Ted Craddock, my husband, and I have lived in Pemberton for seven years. We live in The Glen – a wonderful location suitable for walking to nearby stores and services as well as for enjoying all the outdoor activities this community offers. You will see us often walking our dog.
Educational Philosophy:
I am passionate about education. I believe all students can learn and must learn. This is vital to the growing of a caring citizen. Parents are a very important part of education. School professionals and parents must work together to guide the growth of students and of schools.
