Trustee Dave Walden

I was born in Australia where I spent my first 24 years. I took my teacher training at Kelvin Grove Teachers College in Brisbane and some course work at Queensland University. I taught in Australia for four years, including a year on Palm Island, an Aboriginal Settlement, before coming to Canada in 1967.

I settled in Pemberton and except for one year in Barriere and two years in Squamish in the early 70’s, I have lived here ever since.

I am married and have two adult children.

My hobbies are gardening and woodworking.

Teaching Experience

I taught in the regular classroom, special education and music at Signal Hill Elementary. I was also Vice Principal for over 20 years before my retirement in 2000. I then worked as a Teacher-on-Call for the next five years before deciding to run for the position of School Trustee representing the Village of Pemberton.

Education

I earned my Bachelor of Education (Elem) in 1979 from University of British Columbia and my Master of Arts Degree (Educational Administration) from San Diego State University in 1991.

 Education Philosophy

I believe in a strong Public School System that offers a quality education to all of its students. I value a well-rounded education which places emphasis on achievement in core academic subjects, the arts, and life-long learning strategies. I value an education system that offers choice for students to follow their interests.
